What is the Positivist Calendar?
Perfect for perfectionists: In Auguste Comte's Positivist calendar, each month begins on the 1st and ends on the 28th, with the 1st always falling on a Monday and the 28th on a Sunday. This system was designed in the 19th century by the French philosopher and co-founder of Positivism. The calendar comprises 13 months, each with 28 days, totaling 364 days. To reconcile the annual cycle to 365 days, Comte added an additional holiday at the end of the year, outside the normal weekly structure. In leap years, another extra day was inserted to maintain calendar consistency and meet astronomical requirements.
Unfortunately, the Positivist calendar never gained widespread adoption and remains a hypothetical concept. However, with my interactive tool, you can explore how the days would have been organized in this system.
