The difference between calories and kilocalories?

Be careful not to confuse calories with kilocalories when tracking. 😉

Briefly explained: Imagine someone is talking about their daily calorie intake and says, "I eat 2500 calories per day." While it's colloquially common to talk about calories, the correct term would actually be 2500 kilocalories.

In reality, 2500 calories correspond to 2.5 kilocalories (kcal).

Calories and Kilocalories by Manuel Fally

If you were to aim for only 2.5 kcal, it would only be a matter of time until you realize that something isn't right. The diet might make quick progress initially, but most likely, it would be abandoned just as swiftly, as hardly anyone can sustain that over the long term.

Jokes aside: Everyone understands the context when talking about calories. However, my main goal is to encourage you to still use the correct units of measurement.

Imagine the following: Someone says he is 180 meters tall, even though they actually mean 180 centimeters. That wouldn't make sense with units of length, so why not use the correct terms for calories and kilocalories as well?
