At the moment, during times of lockdown and quarantine, we are facing many challenges. To avoid dealing with unwanted weight gain after all of this – and thus having the next problem to tackle – let’s take a look at what we can do to stay fit during these times.
Since gyms are closed, home workouts are one of the easiest ways to stay active. With the variety of online workout classes, YouTube videos, or fitness apps, it has never been easier to train at home. The key is to find an activity that you enjoy and to make it a regular part of your routine. Personally, I focus on strength training. Luckily, I have a few dumbbells at home, so I can continue my usual workout, albeit in a slightly reduced form.
When it comes to nutrition, most of us struggle. Spending a lot of time at home with not much to do makes it tempting to sit in front of the TV and snack all the time. Try to make some of those snacks healthier by reaching for fruits, vegetables, and getting enough protein. And don't forget to stay hydrated.
If possible, try to take a daily walk in the fresh air. A short walk can work wonders. Of course, make sure to follow the current restrictions and social distancing guidelines.
A structured daily routine also helps prevent you from drifting through the day and keeps a sense of normalcy. Plan fixed times for meals, work, exercise, and sleep. This way, you can keep control of your day. If loneliness starts to get to you, be thankful we’re living in a digital age. Video chats and similar tools are a real advantage during these times.
I actually believe that this pause from our hectic daily lives can also be an opportunity. So why not use the free time to discover a new hobby? Reading, writing, cooking, or learning an instrument – now is the perfect time to start.
