Today was finally the day. I had the chance to get my first COVID-19 vaccination. Although my age group wasn’t originally scheduled for a few more months, I was able to receive a dose of the AstraZeneca vector vaccine today. Here are a few words about that.
In Austria, more than 2 million people have already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and almost 800,000 are fully vaccinated. However, we’re still far from achieving herd immunity. If we look at Israel, we can already see the effectiveness of the vaccine, as they had reached a certain level of herd immunity as early as February. Here in Austria, progress has been slower due to supply delays and a rocky start.
The good news is that with the coming summer, we can expect a drop in new infections. It's the ideal time to get vaccinated. However, it’s still crucial to maintain containment measures and not rush into lifting restrictions too soon. It would be a shame to catch the virus just before getting vaccinated.
I was fortunate enough to receive my first shot today. The reason I was able to get vaccinated earlier than expected, even though my age group wasn’t scheduled for a few more months, is that some people remain skeptical about the vaccines. Unjustifiably skeptical, but we know how it is – some people aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.

Closing Words
I know several people who got infected with COVID-19 and are suffering from long-term symptoms like loss of taste, chronic fatigue, and depression. This disease is no joke, and vaccination minimizes those risks. So, get vaccinated as soon as you can.
