Austria is currently, like many other countries around the world, in another lockdown in response to the rising COVID-19 case numbers. These measures clearly divide society. Some find them sensible, while others consider them unnecessary. Let's take a look at the facts.
Before you continue reading, please keep in mind that this is an earlier COVID-19 update and some of the information may no longer reflect the current situation. The information included was, to the best of my knowledge, current and accurate at the time of publication.
The COVID-19 pandemic has polarized people more than any other issue before. However, this is not a question of opinion or belief, but rather of scientific facts. Every day, new evidence-based insights are published. And these findings show that the virus can cause long-term health damage, even with an initially mild course of illness. Therefore, new measures such as curfews, mask mandates and testing are absolutely justified.
The implementation of any measures can be debated at any time. The fact is that something must be done to reduce the number of daily new infections and relieve the healthcare systems.
By collectively following the prescribed guidelines, we can combat the pandemic more effectively and overcome it more quickly.
