January 01, 2010
Over the past few years, fitness, nutrition and health have become really important to me. I've been putting quite a bit of effort into taking better care of my body. There's just one rather obvious problem with all of that: I smoke. And I think it's finally time to stop.
It's Time to Quit Smoking
I started smoking back in 2006, when I was about 14 or 15. Like a lot of people at that age, I mostly got into it because of the people around me. I've tried to quit once or twice already, but it didn't stick.
This time I want to do something a little different. I'm writing it down here, publicly, because that makes the decision feel more serious. It might sound stupid, but somehow I think admitting it on my website will make it harder for me to give up.
I'm not even planning to make a big announcement to my friends. Some of them have made quitting more difficult in the past, and I'd rather not deal with that again. I'll just do it.
Yesterday, on New Year's Eve, I smoked my last cigarette.
So here it is in writing: January 1, 2010 is the day I quit smoking. I've only smoked for about four years, but I know that doesn't mean it'll be easy. I expect it'll take some effort, and I really hope I can stick with it this time.
If you smoke and have been thinking about quitting too, maybe this will give you a little push to try. I'm doing it for my own health, and I'm pretty sure I won't regret it.
